Brighten up a drab winter garden with colorful stems or winter flowers.
February Daphne (Daphne mezereum) - Fragrant dark purple flowers along stems
Camellia—Most varieties, in red, pink, or white
Flowering Quince (Chanomeles) - pink, salmon, white flowers
Twig Dogwoods (Cornus varieties) - bright red, yellow or orange stems
Winterhazel (Corylopsis) - pale yellow flowers hang from bare stems
Contorted Filbert (Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’)-Twisted and gnarly stems, plus
pendant catkins hanging from the
branches.
Heather (Erica or Calluna) - many varieties with shades of pink or white
flowers, also gold to orange foliaged plants, or varieties with bright orange,
red, or yellow new growth!
Forsythia—bright yellow flowers along long stems
Witchhazel (Hamamelis) - red, orange, or yellow flowers, some fragrant
Oregon Grape (Mahonia) - yellow flowers
Pussywillow (Salix varieties) - creamy white catkins
Sweetbox (Sarcococca) - small white flowers, extremely fragrant
Skimmia—flat topped clusters of tiny white flowers
Pink Dawn Viburnum—small clusters of soft pink flowers, fragrant
